GET THE BASICS!

1. Turning units- Turning units require relatively little maintenance and are designed to be spun hence the name ''turning'' , they work significantly faster than holding units because they are provided with oxygen which they need to break down materials.

2.Heaps- Heap composting are similar to the turning units except they do not require the use of a structure.

 Example of a heap pile.

 3. Sheet Composting -Obtain benefits decayed organic material without a pile. The materials are mixed with a hoe, garden spade , garden fork or rotary tiller . Materials consist of leaves, garden debris , and grass along with food scraps can easily be composted.

4. Pit/Trench- This compost requires kitchen scraps. This method takes about three years. Its a slow process. The first year you dig a 1ft deep hole and throw in the scraps and cover it with soil. The second year is when the materials break down and officially become a compost trench. On the third year the compost trench is ready for planting.
